UAE NOC: When You Need One and How to Get It

What is an NOC in the UAE?

An NOC (No Objection Certificate) is an official letter from your current employer, sponsor, or relevant authority confirming they have no objection to a specific action. In 2026 it remains a key document for job changes, second jobs, business setup, and vehicle purchases.

When you need an NOC for a job change

If you hold a work residence visa sponsored by your current employer, you usually need their NOC before you can transfer your visa to a new employer. The new employer applies for the visa transfer through MOHRE after receiving the NOC. Without it, the transfer cannot proceed unless you fall under one of the limited exceptions such as contract end or employer violation.

NOC for taking a second job

Many employment contracts restrict additional work. If you want to take freelance work or a part-time role alongside your main job, your primary employer must issue an NOC. The second employer then uses this NOC when applying for a part-time work permit through MOHRE. Freelance permits in free zones also require this document in most cases.

NOC for setting up a business

Employees on a company-sponsored visa who want to become partners or owners in a mainland or free-zone company generally need an NOC from their current employer. The Department of Economic Development or free-zone authority will request this letter during the licence application. Some free zones waive the requirement if you hold a valid freelance permit instead.

NOC for buying a vehicle

When financing a car through a bank or leasing company, the lender often requires an NOC from your employer confirming your employment and salary. This supports the loan application. If you already own a car and want to transfer ownership while it is still under finance, the bank issues its own NOC confirming the loan is settled.

How to request an NOC from your employer

Send a polite written request to your HR department or line manager. State the exact purpose (job change, second job, business setup, or vehicle finance). Most companies reply within 5 to 10 working days. Some employers charge an administrative fee between 100 and 500 AED.

What to do if your employer refuses

If your employer refuses without a valid contractual reason, you can raise the matter with MOHRE through their online portal or app. Provide your contract, passport, and visa copy. MOHRE will mediate. In cases of proven contract breach or unpaid wages, they may allow the visa transfer without the NOC.

Timeline and validity
