Most visitors head straight to Dubai or Abu Dhabi beaches, yet the 90-minute drive to the east coast still rewards you with quieter water and lower hotel rates. Khor Kalba, Dibba, and Al Aqah each keep a different character, and none charge entry fees for the public stretches.

Khor Kalba: mangroves and calm shallows

Drive south from Fujairah city on E99 for 25 minutes until the sign for Kalba Mangrove Reserve. Park at the free lot next to the visitor centre, then walk five minutes south along the sand to reach the open beach. The water stays knee-deep for 50 metres, making it ideal for families. Bring shade; the only facilities are two portable toilets and a single snack kiosk selling water and dates for 10 AED.

Dibba rock pools and snorkelling

Continue north on E99, cross the border into Dibba Fujairah, and turn right at the Shell station toward the fishing harbour. A gravel track on the left after 800 metres leads to a small cove with natural rock pools. At low tide the pools trap small fish and you can spot parrotfish without a boat. Local operators rent mask-and-snorkel sets for 40 AED per hour from the harbour jetty. Carry reef-safe sunscreen; no lifeguard is present.

Al Aqah: longer stretch, fewer crowds

From Dibba, drive another 12 minutes south on the same highway and exit at the Sandy Beach Hotel sign. The public section begins 300 metres south of the hotel gate and runs for almost one kilometre. Soft sand and gradual depth make it good for paddle boards. A single cafe at the north end sells karak and sandwiches from 18 AED. Parking is free along the roadside; arrive before 10 am on Fridays to secure a spot.

What to pack and when to go

Water, hat, and a cool box are essential. Summer temperatures above 38 °C make early morning or after 4 pm the best windows. Winter weekends still see only light crowds compared with Jumeirah. Mobile coverage is full 5G on Etisalat and du along the entire coast, so maps work offline or online.

Practical rules for 2026 visitors

Foreign driving licences are accepted for 30 days; longer stays need an ICP tourist visa stamp. Alcohol is not sold on public beaches, so plan accordingly. Leave no trace, litter fines start at 500 AED enforced by Fujairah Municipality rangers.
