Amateur Football Leagues in Dubai: How to Join 2026

League formats and where they play

Dubai offers three main amateur formats in 2026. Five-a-side runs on artificial pitches in JLT, Al Barsha and Dubai Sports City. Seven-a-side uses slightly larger fields in the same areas plus Motor City. Eleven-a-side teams meet on grass at Dubai Club for Youth and Al Nasr Club grounds on weekends.

Costs and season length

Most 5-a-side and 7-a-side leagues charge between 450 and 650 AED per player for an eight-week season. Eleven-a-side teams usually collect 900 to 1,200 AED per player to cover pitch hire, referees and league admin. Payments go directly to the organising club or through the RTA-approved online platforms they use.

How to register as an expat

Sign up on the league website or app with your Emirates ID and a recent passport photo. No special sports visa is needed for amateur play. You only need valid medical insurance, which most expats already hold through DHA-approved providers. Once the payment clears you receive a digital player card valid for the season.

Skill levels and team placement

Leagues split players into beginner, intermediate and competitive divisions after a short trial. Trials last 30 minutes and focus on passing accuracy and fitness rather than professional standards. If you miss the trial date, send a short video of yourself playing to the league coordinator and they assign you accordingly.

Kit, timings and transport

Teams provide a basic jersey; you bring your own boots and shin pads. Evening kick-offs start at 8 pm or 9 pm to avoid peak heat. RTA metro and feeder buses reach most venues, or use Careem for late returns. Female-only and mixed divisions run on different nights, so check the schedule before you commit.
