Why you need a 24-hour top-up option

Most Dubai Metro stations now run limited staffed counters, so many expats rely on self-service machines that stay open around the clock. These machines accept cash, debit cards and credit cards, and they top up any Nol card type, including Silver, Gold, and the new Blue visitor cards.

Maximum cash top-up limit

RTA sets the cash top-up ceiling at AED 500 per single transaction on every machine. You can repeat the transaction immediately if you need a higher balance. Card payments have no daily cap, so use your debit card if you need more than AED 500 at once.

Step-by-step top-up at the machine

Tap your Nol card on the reader so the screen shows your current balance.
Select “Top-up” and choose cash or card.
Insert notes (AED 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 or 500) or swipe/insert your bank card.
Confirm the amount on screen; the machine prints a receipt and updates the card instantly.
Collect card and receipt before walking away.

Extra tips for expats

Keep at least AED 50 credit on your card to avoid the AED 5 insufficient-balance penalty when you tap in. If you lose your card, report it via the RTA app within 24 hours; the remaining balance transfers to a replacement card for a AED 30 fee. Night-shift workers at stations such as Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Rashidiya report the machines stay reliable even at 3 a.m.
