Report to MOHRE first

Log in to the MOHRE portal or visit a MOHRE centre with your Emirates ID and the worker’s passport copy. Submit an absconding report online. The system generates a reference number within minutes. No fee applies for the initial report, but you must keep the reference for the next step.

File a police report the same day

Take the MOHRE reference to the nearest police station and open a missing-person case. The police will issue an official report that lists the worker as absconding. This document is required for insurance claims and future recruitment. Keep both the MOHRE and police references together.

Notify your insurance provider

Most domestic-worker insurance policies cover replacement costs after an absconding incident. Contact your insurer with the police report number. Replacement cover usually ranges from AED 4,000 to AED 7,000 depending on the policy you purchased at visa issuance.

Apply for a replacement worker

Once the absconding status appears on the MOHRE system, you can sponsor a new worker. The process takes 10 to 15 working days if all documents are ready. You pay a new visa fee of AED 3,000 plus medical and Emirates ID costs. The previous worker’s visa is automatically cancelled after the police report is filed.

Prevent future issues

Review your recruitment agency contract before hiring again. Choose agencies that offer a three-month replacement guarantee. Keep copies of salary receipts and signed contracts; these help if any dispute arises later. Clear communication and fair treatment reduce the chance of another incident.
