Who Can Sponsor a Domestic Helper

Only UAE residents with a valid residence visa and a minimum monthly salary of 4,000 AED can sponsor a domestic helper. The sponsor must also have suitable accommodation that meets MOHRE housing standards for live-in staff. Single males under 40 without children are generally not eligible unless they hold a family status or own property.

Salary and Contract Requirements

The sponsor must pay at least 1,500 AED per month plus food and accommodation. The employment contract is issued through MOHRE and must include 30 days of annual leave, end-of-service gratuity, and health insurance. The contract runs for two years and can be renewed before expiry. Both parties sign electronically via the MOHRE app.

Medical and Security Steps

The helper must complete a medical fitness test at an approved UAE centre and obtain Emirates ID after arrival. Police clearance from the helper's home country is required and must be attested by the UAE embassy. These documents are uploaded during the visa application stage.

Visa Application Through ICP

Once the contract is approved, the sponsor applies for an entry permit through ICP. After the helper arrives, the residence visa is stamped within 60 days. Total government fees for 2026 are approximately 4,850 AED, which covers the entry permit, medical test, Emirates ID, and visa stamping. The sponsor must also pay a refundable security deposit of 2,000 AED.

Renewal and Cancellation

Renewal requires a new medical test and updated contract 30 days before expiry. If the helper leaves early, the sponsor must cancel the visa through ICP within 30 days and settle any outstanding wages. Failure to cancel on time can block future sponsorships.
