Why job changes are smoother in 2026

The UAE removed most labour bans years ago. Today, MOHRE only blocks moves if you leave before your contract ends without notice or owe money to your employer. As long as you follow the correct steps, you can move to a new role without a ban on your file.

Check your contract and notice period

Read the termination clause in your current contract. Most limited contracts require 30 calendar days’ written notice. Unlimited contracts usually follow the same 30-day rule unless a different period is stated. Send the notice by email and keep a copy. If your employer agrees to an early release, get that agreement in writing before you resign.

Start the transfer with MOHRE

Once notice is served, your new employer submits an offer letter and employment contract to MOHRE through the ministry portal. You do not need a new entry permit. MOHRE issues an electronic labour card transfer within three to five working days if all documents are complete. No physical visit is required in most emirates.

Update your residency visa

After MOHRE approves the transfer, ICP updates your visa status automatically. You have 60 days from the end of your old contract to complete the new visa stamping.
