Bur Dubai Cultural Walk: Hindu Temple, Souks, Museums
A self-guided walk through Bur Dubai that links the Shree Krishna Hindu Temple, Textile Souk, Al Fahidi Fort and the new Museum of the Poet Al Oqaili with nearby eateries.
Route overview
Start at Al Fahidi metro station and finish at BurJuman. The full loop takes about 90 minutes on foot plus time for photos and snacks. Carry water, wear comfortable shoes and respect prayer times at the temple.
Shree Krishna Temple
Built in 1958, the Shree Krishna Temple on Bur Dubai’s Al Mankhool Road remains the oldest functioning Hindu temple in the UAE. Non-Hindus may enter the outer courtyard daily from 9 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm. Remove shoes, dress modestly and keep phones on silent. A short security check operates at the gate.
Textile Souk
Five minutes’ walk from the temple you reach the Textile Souk along Al Fahidi Street. More than 150 small shops sell cotton, silk and synthetic fabrics. Bargaining is expected; start 30 percent below the first price. The souk stays open until 10 pm most evenings and accepts card payments in most outlets.
Al Fahidi Fort and Coffee Museum
Turn right onto Al Fahidi Street to reach Dubai’s oldest stone building, Al Fahidi Fort, now home to the Dubai Museum. Entry is 3 AED. Opposite the fort entrance sits the Coffee Museum, a free restored house showing 300-year-old roasting tools and Arabic coffee rituals. Both sites close at 5 pm on Fridays.
Museum of the Poet Al Oqaili
Continue along the creek to Al Seef heritage area. The new Museum of the Poet Al Oqaili opened in 2024 inside a restored courtyard house. Panels in Arabic and English tell the story of Mubarak Al Oqaili, one of the UAE’s best-known Nabati poets. Admission is free; the museum is open 10 am to 6 pm daily except Mondays.
Food stops
End the walk at the Al Seef promenade. Options range from 12-AED shawarma wraps at Al Mallah to 45-AED Emirati set meals at Bu Qtair. For coffee, grab a 15-AED karak at the heritage café inside Al Seef. Most kitchens close between 3 pm and 5 pm for afternoon prayer.
